Internet radio is booming! Here are the nine quick facts you need to know.

  1. Over 40% of US broadband households log onto Internet radio websites. That’s up from 32% last year.
  2. Internet radio reaches an affluent target market. Listeners are evenly split by gender, 64% own houses, and 22% make over $100K per year.
  3. It also effectively reaches 18-24 year olds. The majority of young adults are listening to significantly less broadcast radio and more Internet radio than before.
  4. People spend between 1 and 3 hours daily listening online.
  5. More than half listen at work.
  6. Internet radio is a great mobile marketing tactic. Close to half of all listeners tune in on their smart phone or tablet.
  7. It is inherently social and sharable. 60% listen while visiting social sites and 40% simultaneously chat with friends.
  8. The majority of listeners both hear and see ads. 61% do not minimize their radio player while listening.
  9. Successful companies already use this media. 9 of the top 10 retailers and 9 of the 10 biggest restaurants advertise on Internet radio.
