What’s Tumblr? It’s the new rising star in social media. It’s the blogging site that’s all about pictures instead of words. Many of the blogs have no words. Really.
How big is it? Tumblr includes more than 40 million blogs, with roughly 55 million new posts daily.
How fast is it catching on? In September 2011 it hit 10 billion posts. A year before there were only 1 billion.
Who’s on Tumblr? It’s not just for twenty-somethings! 31% of users are 35-49 years old, and 36% are 18-34. Tumblr fans are almost evenly split between men and women.
Why is Tumblr so popular? According to my unscientific survey, it’s easy. It’s simple. It’s got a reposting feature everyone loves. And, it’s addictive. (In fact, I’ll get back to writing this after I look at one last picture....)
Who posts on Tumblr? President Obama is the latest high profile user. He started posting in late 2011.

We should think about...
- Should we experiment with Tumblr in 2012?
- How will we feel in January 2013, if we don’t start posting on Tumblr and our competitors do?
